Arsenal legend makes Fabian Hurzeler prediction after Brighton boss made Liverpool dig

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has weighed in on the strange comments that Fabian Hurzeler made after the Brighton boss aimed a dig at Liverpool during his post-match press conference

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes that Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler has the makings of a top manager after his bizarre dig at Liverpool this weekend.

Hurzeler was on the losing side as his south coast outfit came to Anfield but Brighton has been playing very well up to now. Ahead of this game, it had won its four previous matches by a combined scoreline of 15-0.

"It is all part of it, but you have to get results," Keown told talkSPORT. "He has had incredible results up until this weekend. There is no doubt about how he wants his team to play.

"They will press the life out of you, as they did to Arsenal. They were magnificent that day. Brighton has had a lot of players out ad Hurzeler hasn’t moaned about it.

"It will be interesting to see how he does against Manchester City. I think this manager is going to go places and he isn’t afraid to tell people how it is."

Brighton has two trips to the Etihad Stadium this week, firstly in the Carabao Cup and then in the Premier League.

At Anfield, Hurzeler was left unimpressed by Liverpool's approach in the second half, when the Reds successfully sat back and defended their 2-0 lead that had been earned by Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

"I think everyone in the stadium saw that there was one team who really tried to create and try to win this game and therefore I have to praise my players," the Brighton boss claimed.

"I think everyone in the stadium, and you as well, felt there was a missed opportunity for us, because it's not only after the goal or the goals they scored.

"Also, before they scored, we had one, two big chances and today I think it was just the difference that they scored, we didn't score. They kept a clean sheet because they defended well with their center-backs, with full-back [Ronald] Araujo and with [Milos] Kerkez.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

"I think they blocked a lot of shots. They really defended the box well. We didn't have that efficiency. We couldn't keep the clean sheet because we made easy mistakes; we lost some important personal duels.

"But overall I saw a team with a lot of good things to take away. I saw a team that really had the belief in our approach, that stuck to the match plan, that always kept going, and that is very frustrating because we all have the feeling that there is a missed opportunity here today."

Brighton remains ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League standings, but is now trailing Manchester City and Arsenal by five points. There had been some talk that the Seagulls could find themselves in title contention, but that may have been premature.
