As Williams and the 49ers are set to take on the Washington Commanders on Monday night, Williams admitted that he forgot he played there.

“Sometimes I forget that I even played there. I only played nine seasons there,” Williams told Harrison Rich of the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday. “It’s been almost as much time here as I have there.”
Williams’ career began with the Commanders after he was selected by the team with the No.4 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.
From 2012-2018, Williams was selected to seven consecutive Pro Bowls and helped Washington reach the playoffs in 2012 and 2015.
During the 2019 season, Williams was placed on Washington’s non-football injury list and missed the entirety of the year.
In 2020, he was granted permission to seek a trade and would end up being traded to the 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round pick of the 2020 NFL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
While Williams has appeared to have forgotten about his time in Washington, the team hasn’t.
In 2022, Williams was inducted into the team’s “90 greatest” players and coaches list as part of the team’s 90th anniversary.
Since Williams landed with San Francisco, he’s had a rejuvenated his career and has been a three-time consecutive first-team All-Pro from 2021-2023.
He’s also remained a constant at the left tackle position, as he’s appeared in 75 games for the 49ers, including last season where he started in 16 games.
Despite being 38 years old, Williams has been playing at a high level this season alongside the rest of the San Francisco offensive line as quarterback Brock Purdy has been sacked only three times this season. All three of which came last week.
The 49ers enter their Week 6 game against the Commanders with a 5-0 record and are coming off a thrilling 32-29 victory against the Seahawks last week.
