AFCON U17 Qualifiers: Uganda Cubs share spoils with Ethiopia, progress to semifinals

Uganda U17 Boys National Football Team, the Cubs, sealed a place in the semifinals of the ongoing CECAFA U17 Zonal Qualifiers for AFCON on Wednesday after drawing 1-1 with Ethiopia.

Despite Ethiopia scoring first through Zemichael Minyahel Niguse in the 70th minute, Arnold Kayemba was able to find the equaliser six minutes later.

The result meant Uganda finished top of Group B with four points, same Ethiopia but the former has a better goal difference. Uganda defeated Burundi 8-0 in the first game, while Ethiopia beat the same opponent 3-0.

It should be noted that the tournament has three groups, each comprised of three teams.

The semifinal contests will be determined when all the group games come to a climax on Thursday.

The CECAFA Region is represented at the final tournament by three teams, including the two finalists and the bronze medalist from the qualifiers.
