Former West Ham United and Nottingham Forest winger Hugo Porfirio has reportedly become an Uber driver in Portugal, years after ending his professional football career.
The 53-year-old former Portugal international was identified by influencer Andre Ramalho, who booked a ride with him in the country’s capital, Lisbon, earlier this month.
Ramalho said he and a friend were surprised to discover that their driver was the former footballer, who played at Euro 1996 alongside stars such as Luis Figo and Rui Costa.
Porfirio spent the 1996-97 season on loan at West Ham, making 23 Premier League appearances and scoring four goals in all competitions. He later joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Benfica in 1999, scoring once in nine appearances.
The former winger earned three caps for Portugal and ended his playing career in 2008 with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
Porfirio later worked in scouting at Sporting Lisbon but reportedly disappeared from the public eye after leaving the role about 13 years ago.
Ramalho praised the former footballer after their ride, describing him as a great guy and saying he drove well, despite footballers not always being known for their driving skills.
