The highly billed clash between KCCA and UPDF at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo in the 2026/27 Star Times Uganda Premier League was halted prematurely after eight minutes because of floodlights failure.

The game had kicked off on a high tempo with the visitors dictating the proceedings in the early stages of the duel before the catastrophe.

Play was prematurely halted as darkness engulfed the Lugogo based facility with the players of either side posing on the field of play for five minutes before returning to the dressing rooms.

The league organizers are expected to come up with a statement in the next 24 hours to pronounce themselves on what is next.

What the rules say:

Rule 31 (5) of the FUFA Competitions Rules 2026 Edition says; “In the event of a failure of the lights, the referee shall suspend the match for up to 30 minutes, or until the lights are restored, whichever comes first. If the lights cannot be restored to the licensed standards within 30 minutes, the referee will abandon the match.”
