Villarreal has set its sights on Sporting Charleroi defender Check Keita as a potential January target, following a reported opening approach by the Spanish club’s representatives. The La Liga side is prepared to offer approximately 4 million euro for the 23-year-old Malinese international, whose current deal with the Belgian club runs through the end of the season, according to reports from Africafoot.

Villarreal Eyes Another Jupiler Pro League Transfer

Villarreal’s interest in the Belgian top flight follows a major acquisition earlier this year. Last summer, the Spanish club secured Nathan Saliba from Anderlecht for a reported 15 million euro in one of the Jupiler Pro League’s most notable deals. Now, Villarreal is looking back toward Belgium to reinforce its squad during the winter transfer window following a difficult start to the campaign.

Villarreal sits tenth in La Liga after ten matches and has experienced mixed results in the UEFA Champions League, where a home victory against Napoli was offset by away defeats at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.

Charleroi Set for Significant Profit on Keita

Charleroi could secure a substantial return on investment if the transfer materializes. The Belgian club acquired Keita from French side Stade Reims in the summer of 2024 for a fee of just 500,000 euros. Charleroi currently holds an option to extend Keita’s contract by an additional year beyond its expiration at the end of the current season.
