PSG Vs Barcelona: Blaugrana Face Stern Test Against European Champions

Paris Saint-Germain are set to host Barcelona in a highly anticipated UEFA Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The two teams will face off with the hope of maintaining their 100 percent start to life in the 2026/27 European competition.

Teams’ Form And Recent Performances

PSG

PSG started the 2026/27 season in a disappointing fashion having won just one of their first five matches.

However, Luis Enrique’s side have turned the tides by winning each of their last six games including a 3-1 away win against Strasbourg at the weekend which came right after a 4-2 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League at the Etihad.

The Parisians raced through a three-goal lead in the first half courtesy of Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha.

Erling Haaland pulled one back for City eight minutes into the second half, however, Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG’s three-goal advantage 10 minutes later.

Haaland came through again for City in the 75th minute as they reduced the deficit by half, but were unfortunate on a couple of occasions as the game ended 4-2.

PSG now turn attention to Barcelona as they seek to take another step towards defending the trophy they won for the second successive time last campaign.

Barcelona

Barcelona are the only side with a perfect record among clubs in Europe’s top five leagues having won all of their domestic and European matches.

Hansi Flick’s side are full of confidence going into this encounter having defeated Real Betis 5-2 over the weekend just after dispatching Galatasaray 4-1 in the Champions League.

The Catalan giants fell behind at the RAMS Park through Aleksey Batrakov in the opening 30 minutes before Joao Cancelo equalised in the 43rd minute.

Barcelona opened the floodgates in the second half by scoring three unreplied goals through Fermin Lopez, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi to hand Galatasaray just their second home loss in the UCL in two seasons.

Head-To-Head Statistics

PSG and Barcelona have met 16 times in European competitions with both sides recording six victories apiece while four matches have ended in draws.

The defending European champions are the dominant side in recent seasons having won three of their last five clashes against Barcelona including a 2-1 win in the League Phase last season. Senny Mayulu and Goncalo Ramos secured victory for an injury-plagued PSG at the Camp Nou after Ferran Torres had given Barca the lead.

Key Players Analysis

PSG

Ousmane Dembele

Dembele has proven his consistency since swapping Barcelona for PSG in the 2023 summer transfer window. He has started the season in an impressive fashion having scored four goals and provided six assists.

The current Ballon d’Or holder is an explosive, two-footed forward known for his pace, dynamic 1v1 dribbling with a keen eye for goals.

Dembele poses a threat to his former club’s high-defensive line owing to his ability to run in-behind oppositions’ lines.

Desire Doue

Doue is one of PSG’s key players this campaign having netted three goals and provided as many assists in all competitions.

The 21-year-old is a dynamic, technically gifted attacker and winger, who is known for his smooth, attacking flair and fearlessness in tight spaces.

Barcelona

Lamine Yamal

Yamal is arguably Barcelona’s best player since breaking into the first team three years ago at the age of 15. The 19 year-old has already recorded 19 goal contributions (nine goals and 10 assists) across all competitions this season.

PSG will be wary of the Spain international, who is known for his technical dribbling, vision, and creativity on the right flank.

Raphinha

Raphinha is one of the club’s standouts having scored 14 goals, including back-to-back hat-tricks while also providing three assists before the first international break of the season.

The Brazil international is an explosive and versatile left-footed attacker, who operates as an inverted left winger and currently deployed as central false-nine by Flick. His technical ability to beat defenders will be a major concern for PSG.

Team News

PSG

PSG are set to be without Nuno Mendes having received the news that the Portugal international has sustained a moderate thigh injury which will keep him out for several weeks. Former Aston Villa defender, Lucas Digne is poised to replace him in the starting line up.

The French giants’ other two injury concerns are young midfielder Senny Mayulu and teenage goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni, both of whom missed the Strasbourg victory with dead legs, though the former is now back in full training.

Barcelona

Barcelona are not as fortunate in terms of fitness, as Kounde and Eric Garcia are out due to injuries they picked up against Real Betis.

Gerard Martin and Gabriel Jesus also had issues over the weekend, but the duo have been named in the Blaugrana team that will travel.

Raphinha is set to be welcomed back to the starting XI following a substitute appearance against Betis after getting back to full fitness.

Possible Starting Line-Ups

PSG (4-3-3):

Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Digne; Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Barcelona (4-2-3-1):

Garcia; Espart, Cubarsi, Martin, Cancelo; Pedri, Rodri; Yamal, Lopez, Gordon; Raphinha
