Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Man United in the race for Giuliano Simeone, the son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.
It has not all been smooth sailing for Giuliano Simeone at Atletico, with the winger often coming under major criticism from the club’s supporters.
However, the last few months have been very positive for the 23-year-old, who played a valuable role for Argentina in their march to the World Cup final in the summer.
The winger has brought that form into the new season, having scored two and assisted twice in eight games for Atletico, who currently sit in second place in La Liga.
The former River Plate academy player’s impressive recent form has seemingly brought him to the attention of several Premier League clubs.
It was reported by TEAMtalk earlier this week that Tottenham had explored the possibility of bringing Simeone to North London.
The report claimed that Roberto De Zerbi was the driving force behind Spurs’ interest, with the Italian seeing the Argentine as a good fit for his system and for Premier League football.
According to a new report in Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are set to face competition from Man United for Simeone’s signature.
The Red Devils hierarchy admire the player, and their scouts had the opportunity to take a closer look at him when the two clubs faced each other in a Champions League clash at the Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday.
The report adds that Simeone is viewed by English clubs as a ‘player perfectly suited for the Premier League’, owing to his intensity, attacking versatility, aggression and high-pressing.
However, Mundo Deportivo make it clear that Atlético have no interest in selling the Argentine international in the upcoming transfer window.
The Spanish club consider Simeone to be ‘untouchable’ and an exit from the Metropolitano Stadium appears ‘virtually impossible’ in the short term.
It is revealed that the Argentine international is contracted until 2030 at the Colchoneros and his release clause has been set around €500m (£422m).
The website also adds that Simeone has a ‘deep emotional connection’ to Atletico, having supported them throughout his life.
