With future Hall of Famers such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry in the twilight of their careers, Victor Wembanyama has been the name on everyone’s minds when it comes to bearing the torch for the next generation of superstars.

With the onus of being the ‘face of the NBA’ on his shoulders comes a great deal of hype. That hype has materialized as one of the most astounding sports trading card sales in recent collectibles history.

PokeColor Marketplace announced on their Instagram that they had “acquired” the 2023-24 Topps Mercury 1-of-1 Victor Wembanyama Gold Foilfractor Rookie Logoman Autograph.

The previous record for the most expensive Wemby card ever sold was set by the 2023-24 Prizm Black 1/1, which sold this past May for $5.11 million. The aforementioned Mercury 1/1 has blown this record out of the water, selling for a whopping $8,668,100.

This card is unlicensed and does not contain a game-worn patch. So, being valued as highly as it is does seem a bit confusing to a few collectors, not to mention the fact that it has been graded a PSA 8 and is in ‘near mint’ condition.

Victor Wembanyama Cards Are A Hot Commodity

Wemby’s cards have broken past the seven-figure mark at auction before. The 2024 Victor Wembanyama Kaboom! (1/1) sold for $1.44 million on Alt this past July.

It previously sold for $516,000 in February, meaning that in less than half a year, the collectible’s value went up by nearly $1 million.

This card’s July sale also set the record for being the most expensive Kaboom! card ever sold at a public auction. The previous record was held by the $1.35 million Cristiano Ronaldo Kaboom!

Another card featuring the Frenchman that sold for big bucks is his 2023-24 Panini Prizm Nebula Choice Prizm #136 Rookie Card (#1/1). Graded a PSA 9, this sold on Goldin for $860,100.

It’s clear that the Wemby market is at an all-time high. According to Alt XYZ, his cards are up over 14% in just the last 90 days.

With the NBA season starting in a couple of days and the San Antonio Spurs fresh off their first run to the NBA Finals since their 2014 title win over the Miami Heat, it’s safe to say that Victor Wembanyama cards will continue to surge.
