Arteta Reveals Gabriel's Injury Scare After Arsenal's Win Against Everton

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted he feared Gabriel Magalhaes had suffered a serious injury before the Brazilian defender recovered to score in Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton.

Gabriel required medical attention after going down awkwardly while attempting to make a clearance in the second half at the Emirates Stadium.

The incident initially raised concerns among Arsenal’s coaching staff, with Arteta preparing to replace the centre-back before he eventually signalled his readiness to continue.

According to GOAL, Gabriel’s determination paid off as he went on to score Arsenal’s second goal, helping the Gunners secure three important points in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

Ezri Konsa had given Arsenal an early advantage in the seventh minute, but Everton remained in contention as the hosts struggled to put the game beyond their opponents.

However, Gabriel settled the contest in the 68th minute, meeting Ben White’s delivery with a powerful header to double Arsenal’s lead.

The goal came just 12 minutes after the Brazilian had received treatment following his injury scare.

Arteta Admits Worry Over Gabriel, Hails Him For His Mentality

Speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day after the encounter, Arteta acknowledged his initial concerns but suggested the defender had avoided a serious problem.

“It was a really worrying action,” Arteta said in his post-match press conference.

“We know Gabi and how tough and strong he is – and he seems to be okay.”

“He is a clear example of when I talk about the mentality of the team.

“The mentality of the team is the mentality of the players. And he is a great example of that.

“We were all scared not only for the way he went down but for the reaction of the players that were next to him. Immediately he says he wants to continue and he scores the goal that helps us win the game.”

Gabriel’s performance was particularly significant as he marked his 200th Premier League appearance with a goal and another impressive defensive display.

The victory also saw Arsenal move level on 21 points with Manchester City, who suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa earlier on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s medical team will continue to assess Gabriel ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round encounter against Fleetwood Town.

Despite the initial scare, Arteta’s comments suggest the Brazilian could have escaped a significant injury, although his availability for the cup fixture remains uncertain.
