After being given their chance to explain where it went wrong on TalkingPoints, supporters were brutally honest in their assessments.

Who is to blame for Leicester City's fall from grace and why? From FA Cup champions to 17th in League One in the space of five years…

‘The rot starts from the top’

User @adnan.riaz began what would be the start of a recurring theme in which the ownership were at the centre of the blame.

King Power are reportedly wanting to sell the club and the absence and lack of communication from Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha is causing plenty of anger amongst the Foxes faithful.

His repeated claims of ‘we’ll get promoted’ isn’t washing with fans. They want answers as to why things are as bad as they have ever been.

It has to be on the owners, surely? The rot start from the top and bleeds down to the bottom.

‘A series of bad decisions’

Throughout the late teens and early 20s, Leicester were the blueprint of what every club outside of the big six should follow to yield success. Buy cheap, sell for profit. It worked so many times.

That all changed in 2021 though when, after winning the FA Cup, they opted not to sell a star asset. They spent bigger than ever, getting very little back in return. Since then recruitment has fallen off a cliff and @pranav.shahaney believes that a catalogue of errors from the hierarchy is to blame.

The club’s ownership since they won the Premier League title have been making a series of bad decisions. They had the potential to build on that success and establish themselves a proper top flight outfit. Instead they made Leicester a yo-yo club that’s now even struggling in the third tier. I’m no fan of Martin but this is not entirely on him

‘A total mess’

Three words that perfectly summarise Leicester over the past five years.

As @chillout correctly points out, off-field matters haven’t done the ownership any help. The Covid-19 pandemic decimated the tourism business, directly affecting King Power in a market they had long been powerful in.

Struggles there financially have impacted the football club but that doesn’t excuse the lack of smart spending and frugal recruitment in terms of playing staff, managerial appointments and senior roles.

This is a chain of events – the club’s leadership and decisions on spending and recruitment. Certain managers and players also need to accept a share of responsibility. And then there are the issues that have emerged from Thailand. It’s a total mess.

‘Asking for trouble’

You reap what you sow according to @dantowen81951. Although he isn’t a Leicester fan, it is clear where he sees the problem lies.

Spending big isn’t necessarily the problem. If you get the right targets and everything clicks, it’s money well spent.

Leicester clearly decided to go big as they felt it was the only way to carry on threatening the big six, but it backfired.

It was always going to be something that could bite them on the back, but this has left a deep scar.

From a neutral perspective, I think it’s the directors and recruitment chiefs. So many awful signings and often on massive wages – asking for trouble
