Xabi Alonso says Chelsea want to return to the level that saw them win the Champions League and the Premier League, but accepts that rebuilding the club’s success will take time.

The Spanish coach, who works with the London club, was asked whether Chelsea were planning a return to the Champions League and a challenge for the English Premier League title.

“Chelsea won the Champions League and Premier League not so long ago, and we want to return to that,” Alonso said.

However, he stressed that reaching those objectives would not happen immediately. Chelsea will need time to progress, while making the correct decisions along the way.

The London club last won the English Premier League in 2017, when Antonio Conte was in charge.
