Anderlecht exited the Belgian Cup in the sixteenth-finals, falling 2-1 to Beerschot, DHnet reported.
The elimination arrived amid a difficult stretch for the Brussels club, three days after a second defeat in the Europa League. Beerschot capitalized on numerical superiority after Maamar received a new yellow card synonymous with exclusion near the hour mark. The dismissal occurred in the 58th minute following an altercation where Maamar pushed an opponent to the ground.
“The size of the core will be an asset in the long term, because it allows us to stay fresh,” team representatives told DHnet. “But that does not take away from the fact that we must be able to do better than what we showed here at Beerschot. We know how important the Cup is. We wanted to win it this season.”

Anderlecht a joué avec six nouveaux joueurs dans l’équipe sans réussir à s’imposer face au Beerschot. The home side continued its series of invincibility at home, securing the result through counter-attacking play.
The match turned decisively in the second half when Anderlecht were reduced to 10 men. Following Maamar’s 58th-minute sending-off, Beerschot increased the pressure on the visiting defense. In the 71st minute, Haj Mohamed doubled his goal count for the hosts on a rapid counter-attack.
Anderlecht attempted a late response when substitute Bertaccini entered the match and scored an individual goal in the 86th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1. However, despite late pressure and dangerous set-piece opportunities deep into stoppage time, the visitors failed to find an equalizer.
“All matches must be played. Who says we are going to lose them?” team staff stated. “We have a good coach who is strong tactically. And we have a tight-knit group. We must stick together and win matches urgently, because even if we have to integrate ten new players, this is a crucial period.”
Reflecting the wider scope of the tournament, three clubs from the elite were eliminated during the sixteenth-finals round. Defending champions Union Saint-Gilloise advanced with a 3-0 victory over Nijlen, while FC Malines defeated Eupen 5-1 to secure their progression.
The eighth-finals of the Belgian Cup are scheduled to take place between December 4 and December 6.
