Scott Hanson has spent 18 NFL seasons as fans' No. 1 co-pilot for the most important plays of every game each week, but even RedZone's human highlight-reel voice can picture life beyond the desk and admitted as much during a candid interview.
Hanson admitted in a recent interview that RedZone might not be his last TV stop. He’s still locked in for now, but he's not ruling out a new NFL chapter when his contract runs out.
Hanson’s hint dropped as the NFL media world zeroed in on Troy Aikman’s uncertain future at ESPN. With Aikman’s partnership with Joe Buck reportedly on the rocks, Hanson’s comments added another wild card to the NFL TV game.
Hanson said he’s only halfway through his four-year NFL deal. He called himself "not married" to the RedZone desk forever, even though the gig has made him a Sunday staple since 2009.
His comments prompted an anxious response from viewers accustomed to hearing his voice accompany virtually every Sunday touchdown.
One fan wrote, "Red Zone is sacred, don't scare us like that," while another added, "Sometimes you don’t know how good ya got it until it’s gone."
A third NFL fan added, "The only place you should go is on a delta flight and do redzone 30k feet up lol," while another viewer suggested Hanson deserved "Aikman money."
Hanson later reassured viewers that he had no plans to leave immediately on X and seemed to walk back his interview words.
His existing deal runs through the 2028 season, giving him two additional full campaigns after this one before any decision about his next chapter becomes pressing.
Hanson already took his RedZone magic to Peacock’s Gold Zone for the Paris and Winter Olympics, and he’s set to do it again in Los Angeles in 2028.
Aikman expects to hit free agency after this season, with Buck reportedly locked in for six more years at $108 million. The ex-Dallas Cowboys QB is finishing the last season of a five-year, $90 million contract with ESPN, worth $18 million annually.
Buck and Aikman reportedly argued before their last Rams-Bills broadcast, but they still finished the game side by side. Aikman kept quiet about the drama, while RedZone rolled on through another Sunday.
Hanson ran the show for Sunday’s action and teased a special video to mark RedZone’s 300th episode. He gave a behind-the-scenes look at the production meeting before showtime alongside Good Morning America.
