A former club captain of Millwall who played in the same team as Harry Kane has expressed his joy after the England striker won the Ballon d'Or.

Alan Dunne, who played with Kane at Millwall in 2012 when he was on loan at the south London club, said he was "so pleased to see him pick up such a prestigious award".

Dunne, who now manages Kent side Tonbridge Angels in the sixth tier of English football, told BBC Radio Kent: "I feel honoured to have shared a changing room with him.

"I think a lot of Millwall fans, ex players and coaches would all think he deserves it, so I am delighted for him."

Kane joined Millwall on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and scored nine goals in 27 appearances, helping the Lions remain in the Championship that season.

He now plays for German giants Bayern Munich and is England's joint most capped player.

Dunne said: "There was something special in his finishing and his humbleness.

"I've played with a lot of exceptional players over the years but one of his best traits is how humble he is.

"Harry was very grounded, no matter how many goals he scored, he wanted to score more and wanted to be better."

Dunne said that Kane showed his qualities by overcoming the "sink or swim" environment of Millwall's home ground, The Den.

He said: "He highlighted that it made him a man, and if you can play at The Den, you can play anywhere.

"Many players have folded there. It's credit to Harry he came through it, and I don't think anything phases him."

In his Ballon d'Or acceptance speech on Monday evening, Kane also thanked his manager at Millwall at the time, Kenny Jackett.

Jackett spent time at Gillingham as the club's Director of Football, but passed away in the summer, aged 64.

At the ceremony on Monday night, he said: "I want to give a shout-out to some of my coaches who have helped me along the way.

"All of you played a big role in my development at different stages of my life. Without every single one of you I wouldn't be standing here today. I learnt lots."
