Man City’s former British record transfer fee’s son makes Serie A debut six years after father’s retirement

Manchester City received the verdict regarding their 115 charges in recent weeks, with a lot of attention since then from the public about their finances since its publication.

There has been a lot of discussion about what punishment may lie in wait for the Premier League club; however, City still argue they have ‘irrefutable evidence’ that they are innocent.

One of the players bought during this questionable period, for a record transfer fee nonetheless, has turned his attention away from the goings-on at the club, as his son made his Serie A debut for Genoa.

Robinho’s son makes his Serie A debut for Genoa

The Brazilian joined Man City for a British transfer record fee of £32.5 million in September 2008, joining from Real Madrid.

Robinho’s period at the club is often forgotten due to the lack of success that was experienced, but it was a signal of the new financial muscle available to the Citizens.

He had long been rumoured to be of interest to Chelsea, another club with considerable financial muscle at the time, but he opted to join Man City.

Robinho spent two disappointing seasons at the Etihad Stadium, with the second seeing him go on loan to Santos. The attacker would only make 53 appearances, scoring on 16 occasions during his stint.

He would leave to join AC Milan, where he spent four seasons. Now his son, Robinho Junior, is applying his trade in the division with Genoa.

The 18-year-old was introduced off the bench in the final minutes of this evening’s 2-0 defeat to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Robinho Junior joined the Italian side on the transfer deadline day on loan from Santos, with an option to buy for €8 million.

The Brazilian had impressed at Primavera youth level with three goals and an assist in three appearances, so he was promoted to Daniele De Rossi’s senior squad.

Robinho’s time in Serie A

Robinho Sr spent four seasons in the Italian top flight with AC Milan, making 144 appearances and scoring 32 goals.

He was part of the squad that won the 2011 Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italia in the same year.

The Brazilian would be in a stacked Milan team in attack, as they had the talents of Ronaldinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Filippo Inzaghi, and Alexandre Pato.

Robinho, Ibrahimovic, and Pato would not have a standout campaign in Serie A, but their collective efforts won them the title, as they each scored eight goals in the division.

The former Real Madrid star, while he may have only lifted one Serie A title it is more than what he managed to contribute at Man City. During his side at the English club, they would finish 10th in his one full campaign in the Premier League.
