Manchester United's trip to Elland Road to face their old rivals Leeds two Sundays ago saw the points shared and each side potentially lucky to avoid a red card.

The draw was the sixth in Michael Carrick's winless sequence as Old Trafford boss, which has now stretched to eight games and sees his job hanging by a thread.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo's opener as the game ended 1-1, but the game might have been more open if the teams had both been reduced to 10 early on.

Bruno Fernandes was late on Tarik Muharemovic as the Leeds defender cleared from the edge of his own box early in the first half, with Darren England coming back to book the Red Devils' captain once the play concluded at the other end.

Gabriel Gudmundsson escaped with only the same level of punishment a few minutes later when he was late on Andrey Santos, leaving the Brazilian in a heap after standing on his ankle.

Had the visitors' talisman already been shown red it wouldn't have been a huge surprise to see England even up the numbers thanks to the strength of Gudmundsson's challenge.

Instead the VAR Peter Bankes was happy to let the on-field decision stand, and speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT after the match ex-Premier League official Graham Barber concurred.

He felt that neither Leeds' wing-back nor Man United's Portuguese star Fernandes had been overly reckless and that both fouls had been genuine attempts to win the ball.

Now the Premier League's Key Match Incident panel's own verdict on the Gudmundsson yellow card has been released, although they did not give a ruling on Fernandes.

Agreeing unanimously, the five-person panel agreed that the Swede rightly stayed on the pitch, deciding both England's initial call and Bankes' VAR review reached the correct conclusion.

In their supporting comments they said: "The on-field call of a yellow card was supported for a reckless challenge by Gudmundsson. Contact was made on Santos' ankle as he looked to change direction, but with low force and below the threshold for serious foul play."
