Terem Moffi scored his second goal for Hamburg, but it was not enough to prevent a 3-1 home defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt in the second round of the German Cup on Tuesday.
Frankfurt had established a 3-0 lead before Moffi found the net with 11 minutes remaining. The forward’s effort offered Hamburg little more than consolation as the five-time German Cup winners advanced.
Raphael Onyedika played the full 90 minutes for Eintracht Frankfurt in the tie.
The goal was Moffi’s second in all competitions since he joined Hamburg during the summer transfer window. His other strike came in the league, where he scored his maiden Bundesliga goal.
The defeat leaves Hamburg with consecutive losses. They had previously been beaten 1-0 away by Paderborn in Saturday’s league match.
Frankfurt also entered the cup fixture after losing their previous game, going down by -0 to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Eintracht Frankfurt are seeking to win the German Cup for the first time since their most recent triumph in 2018.
