Tottenham Hotspur may come to regret not pushing the envelope to sign Antonio Nusa in the summer, as they have now been overtaken in the race for the RB Leipzig star.

It was widely reported through the summer window that Spurs were exploring a move for the 21-year-old winger, who was one of the stars of Norway’s World Cup campaign in the summer.

In the end, Nusa stayed put at the Red Bull Arena, and the decision-makers at Hotspur Way may already be questioning if they made a mistake by not doing more to land him.

Nusa has had a spectacular start to the new campaign, managing four goals and three assists in eight games, and this has alerted several other Premier League clubs.

Earlier this month, it emerged that Arsenal are ready to challenge Spurs in the race for Nusa, and it has now been revealed that two other Premier League clubs have also joined the winger’s growing list of admirers.

Three Premier League clubs have overtaken Tottenham in Antonio Nusa race

Football Insider say that several English clubs are plotting to bring the Norway international to the Premier League in January, but the report does not name Tottenham Hotspur among the leading contenders.

It is revealed that Arsenal have been joined in the race for Nusa by Aston Villa and Newcastle United, with all three clubs looking to add more pace to their wide areas.

The outlet claims that the Gunners and the Villans hold the edge over the Magpies in the transfer race, as they can offer Nusa Champions League football.

The trio all have the player firmly on their radar and are prepared to pounce if he becomes available. Interest in Nusa is also expected to grow from around Europe ahead of the January window.

The website claims to have heard from an industry source that it will take ‘at least’ £60m to prise the former Club Brugge man away from Leipzig.

Why Spurs are likely to pass on Nusa in January

Tottenham do not tend to do a lot of business in January, and one suspects that the Lilywhites will focus their efforts on signing a number nine to replace Richarlison in the winter.

There is no doubt that the left wing has been an issue for Roberto De Zerbi’s side this season, given Mathys Tel’s loss of confidence and form.

However, with the likes of Wilson Odobert, Mykhailo Mudryk, Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons set to return over the next few weeks and months, Tottenham may feel they have enough options.

Injured player Injury Potential Return
Wilson Odobert Knee November 2026
Xavi Simons Knee 2027
Mykhailo Mudryk Ankle November 2026
Dejan Kulusevski Fitness Soon
Pedro Porro Hamstring October 2026

One should not be surprised if the Lilywhites keep the powder dry and attempt to sign another top-class winger next summer, but the risk is that Nusa may no longer be available by then.
