Harry Kane Name PSG As Champions League Favourites
PSG

Harry Kane has named Paris Saint-Germain as his Champions League favourites after Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Eberechi Eze gave Arsenal the lead at the Allianz Arena before Alphonso Davies pulled Bayern level by the break. Kane then put the German champions ahead from the penalty spot but Declan Rice rounded off an excellent move in the 82nd minute to secure a point for Mikel Arteta’s side.

On Tuesday night, PSG continued their Champions League dominance with a 4-2 win at home to Barcelona, who had won all 11 of their games this season prior to their trip to the Parc des Princes.

Last season, Bayern were beaten 6-5 on aggregate by PSG in the Champions League semi-final and Kane feels Luis Enrique’s side are still the standout team in Europe.

When asked to name who he believes is the best team in the Champions League, Kane told Canal+: ‘I think Paris, us, Arsenal, Barcelona, Madrid always, there are a lot of strong teams.

‘Paris, of course, winning back-to-back Champions Leagues, they’re going to be favourites for it.

‘But we had a great game last year, a really close game against them, another close game against Arsenal here. We’ll have to see, this is just the early start of the season, a long way to go and we’ll see what happens come April and May.’

Kane was also complimentary about Arsenal’s approach to their game against Bayern and admits his teammates were left ‘confused’ by the movement from Mikel Arteta’s players.

‘I think Arsenal are quite tricky, to be honest, in how they moved,’ Kane said.

‘Normally we have quite a clear reference on who we’re pressing. Because of their movement, especially in the second half, I felt like we got a little bit confused on who to take.

‘We got stuck in a low block for a bit too long, especially when they scored their second goal, that last 10, 15 minutes, we struggled to get out and trigger. Definitely something that I can improve on and the team can improve on in those moments, being a bit more clear on who to take.

‘In the end, a draw is probably a fair result today. I think we had some good moments, we had good momentum after we went 2-1 [ahead], we could’ve punished them and finished the game. But we’re playing against a tough team, they had some good chances as well, especially from set-pieces, so right now it’s about improving whilst moving on because we have another game coming thick and fast.

‘This game today I think we cleaned up the mistakes. Their goals were two good goals, to be honest, you have to sometimes give credit where credit is due. But still we’re maybe just missing that last clinical nature, whether it’s the pass or the cross or the finish, we’re not quite killing teams when we have the chance.’
