Liverpool have the opportunity to continue their unblemished record in the Champions League on Tuesday night when they host Villarreal. The Reds have won their opening two fixtures in the competition, having bested Atletico Madrid and LASK.

The spirits of Andoni Iraola's side when they welcome the La Liga side will certainly be high following their crucial 2-1 victory away to Brentford over the weekend. Despite going a goal down due to Keane Lewis-Potter's strike, the away side fought back through goals from Victor Munoz and a returning Alexander Isak.

The Reds have risen to fifth in the Premier League table thanks to the win and have since been informed of a transfer situation revolving around one of their key stars. Meanwhile, one rising Liverpool ace has finally had his ban lifted. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest stories coming out of Anfield...

Rio Ngumoha's rise at Liverpool in recent years hasn't gone unnoticed elsewhere. The England star, 18, is a regular in Iraola's first team following his breakout campaign last season under Arne Slot. The sheer talent and potential of the teenager saw him become the subject of interest from Bayern Munich and Arsenal, according to The Athletic.

Liverpool have no interest in parting ways with the precocious forward, who addressed this past summer's speculation when asked about his future after Saturday's victory. Ngumoha said: "To be fair, that is all with my agent now.

"I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let my football do the talking at the end of the day. I enjoy playing, and all of that stuff is in the back of my mind really. I just play for the club, and hopefully I can carry on doing well."

Liverpool defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe has become eligible for a UK work permit due to his current loan spell at Levante. The 18-year-old officially joined the Reds this past summer and featured heavily in pre-season, but was unable to play for the club competitively because he was ineligible for a UK work permit.

The Reds have the option to recall the Austrian in January, who is expected to remain with the La Liga side for the rest of the season, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Iraola certainly isn't short of options in the centre of defence, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Joe Gomez all fit. Italian ace Giovanni Leoni is also nearing the end of his recovery from the ACL injury he suffered last season.

Ndukwe endured a slow start to life in Spain, but has now started back-to-back games for Levante and scored a last-gasp equaliser on his first start against Sevilla in a 3-3 draw. He followed that up with another 90 minutes in a 1-1 stalemate against Deportivo last Friday.
