Lamine Yamal’s Uncle Slams Harry Kane After Ballon d’Or Win

Abdul Abdellaoui Believes His Nephew Deserved The 2026 Ballon d’Or Instead Of Bayern Munich Striker Harry Kane, Who Became England’s First Winner Since Michael Owen In 2001.

Lamine Yamal’s Uncle Slams Harry Kane After Ballon d’Or Win

Harry Kane has been crowned the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, but Lamine Yamal’s uncle, Abdul Abdellaoui, has criticised the decision to overlook the Barcelona teenager.

Metro says Kane received football’s prestigious individual honour at Monday’s ceremony in London after an outstanding season for Bayern Munich and England.

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe finished second, while Yamal placed third and collected the Young Talent of the Year award for the third consecutive time.

Speaking to El Larguero after the ceremony, Abdellaoui expressed disappointment over the outcome and insisted his nephew deserved to finish ahead of the England captain.

‘Well, the truth is it’s really sad, I feel really bad,’ Abdul said, before making his feelings about the result clear.

Yamal’s Uncle Questions Ballon d’Or Decision

‘My nephew was amazing, he was the best player in the world, everyone knows it. If you like football, you go to see Lamine, not Harry Kane,’ he added.

Abdellaoui acknowledged Kane’s goalscoring ability but argued that Yamal’s overall performances made him more deserving of the award this year.

‘Harry Kane is a great goalscorer but Lamine is the best player who shines on the pitch and if he’s unlucky, there’s next year.’

The Barcelona youngster enjoyed a successful season, winning La Liga before helping Spain secure the World Cup, further strengthening his reputation as one of football’s brightest talents.

However, his uncle believes Yamal’s age may have influenced voters, suggesting the teenager is repeatedly told he has plenty of time to win the award.

‘Since Lamine is young, they always say he has time, he’s 19, and that’s why they’re not giving him the award,’ Abdul claimed.

Despite his disappointment, he remains convinced Yamal will eventually claim football’s biggest individual prize multiple times during his career.

‘Lamine will win more than one, but the sadness will pass in three days. In a few days he will be fine.’
