The New York Knicks title run has inspired a Long Island couple to name their newborn son after the NBA team.
Yvonne Gonzalez-Bradford and her husband, Vance Bradford, named their newborn Knickson Fyve Bradford, a phonetic reference to the "Knicks in five" chant. The phrase was frequently heard following the team's five-game Finals win over the San Antonio Spurs back in June.
As the couple recounted in an interview with TODAY, they repeatedly heard "Knicks in five!" from their high-rise apartment.
Yvonne, a first-time mom, was seven months pregnant when the Knicks won the championship and proposed a clever name for their child if it were to be a boy.
"What if we give our son a name for a champion? What about Knickson?" she recalled telling her husband Vance, who comes from a family of die-hard Knicks fans. So he didn’t hesitate to accept his wife’s suggestion. "Knickson Bradford sounds fantastic! He owns oil, if you ask me," he said.
'Lady Victoria' was originally the couple's name for a baby girl, while they also floated the name 'Prestige Wisdom' for a boy. Two days after settling on Knickson, Yvonne suggested 'Fyve' as their child’s middle name.
"You know how when something happens so well in your favor, you don't want to jinx it? I was just like, 'Yep! Absolutely. That's it!'" Vance said.
Knickson Fyve Bradford was born August 8 at 8 pounds, 8 ounces, sharing a birthday with his mother.
The name also follows a family tradition. Vance's late mother, Sydell Johnson, worked as a Knicks scorekeeper the last time the team won a championship, in 1973. She died unexpectedly in 2025.
Baby Knickson has his own Instagram account, @knicksonfyve, where the newborn often wears Knicks apparel. On Tuesday (October 20), the team held a ring ceremony ahead of their game against Philadelphia 76ers, where they lost 106-100.
