Kelechi Iheanacho sets Turkish football record with goals in 10 straight league matches

Kelechi Iheanacho has become the first player in Turkish football to score in 10 consecutive professional league matches after finding the net in the away fixture against Mugla.

The Super Eagles forward’s latest goals took his season tally to 14 and saw him surpass the previous record of nine successive matches, jointly held by Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancakl?.

Iheanacho scored twice against Mugla, extending a run that has now set a new benchmark in Turkey’s professional league football. He also created the final goal of the game, taking his assist total to three.

The previous record was established in the Super Lig by Galatasaray forward Metin Oktay during the 1962-63 season. Kocaelispor’s Saffet Sancakl? equalled that achievement in the 1995-96 campaign.

Neither player managed to score in 10 consecutive league appearances, but Iheanacho has now moved beyond their mark with his latest performance.
