Who long will it take Cristiano Ronaldo to pay off measly Portugal fine?

Cristiano Ronaldo has accepted his punishment handed down to him after his public falling out with Portugal manager Jorge Jesus - a backdated 30-day suspension and a paltry €255 fine, which would cost the Al-Nassr star less than a minute of earnings.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star was the story of the last international break, walking out of the Portugal camp on the eve of a Nations League clash with Denmark.

Ronaldo issued a lengthy statement where he accused manager Jesus of breaking promises regarding the attacker’s role in the national team.

In said statement, Ronaldo himself asked to be punished, stating that he deserved no leniency.

Since making his debut for the national team in 2003, Ronaldo has made 234 appearances for Portugal, scoring 146 goals.

The fine, which converts to £215 at current exchange rates, will be largely symbolic based on Ronaldo’s current wages at Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr.

As such, analysts from OLBG reckon that it would take Ronaldo 30.17 seconds to earn back the amount required to pay the fine.

It is claimed that Ronaldo is paid £488,000 per day, with Forbes reporting that the 41-year-old earns £225million a year when other sources of income are considered.

On top of the reported $235m Al-Nassr pay Ronaldo, the Portugal international earns a further $65m from sponsorships with partners such as Nike, Herbalife, and Binance. However, this is just a conservative estimate, with other business ventures potentially earning Ronaldo even more. In 2024 Forbes rated Ronaldo’s net worth at $1.2billion.

For example, the five-time Balon D’or winner reportedly charges up to $3.5m for a single sponsored post on Instagram, a fee which would pay his fine from the Portuguese FA 12,195 times over.

Ronaldo is one of the most followed celebrities on social media, boasting 679 million followers on Instagram, with a combined count of over one billion followers across Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
