Simkoko’s nett 64 highlights Lugalo Golf

DAR ES SALAAM: ABASI Simkoko stole the show with an outstanding nett 64 to win Division C at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club’s Nyerere Day Golf tournament in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

Emmanuel Mtesigwa also impressed, claiming Division B honours with a gross 86 and nett 69 in the competition held on the club’s 18-hole, par-72 course.

The tournament brought together golf enthusiasts to commemorate the legacy of Tanzania’s founding father, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, with players competing in Division A, Division B, Division C, Ladies and Seniors categories. In Division A, Onesphory Mhalikome claimed victory after returning a gross 74 and nett 69.

Rodjiy Daudi also carded a nett 69 but finished second on countback after posting a gross 76. David Mziray finished second in Division C with a nett 67, while Ramadhan Ramadhan took the runner-up position in Division B with a nett 72.

In the Ladies category, Shufaa Twalib won with a nett 69, finishing ahead of Yasmin Chali, who returned the same score but lost on countback.

Mohamed Rweyemamu topped the Seniors category with a nett 81, while Charles Senkondo finished second with an identical score.

TPDF Lugalo Golf Club Manager, Colonel David Mziray, thanked participants for turnout, saying the event combined sporting competition with an opportunity to honour Nyerere’s contribution to the country.

Mwalimu Nyerere who led Tanzania through its early years of Independence, is remembered for championing national unity, self-reliance and equal opportunities.

He died on October 14, 1999, and remains central to the country’s annual Nyerere Day commemorations. The tournament added a sporting dimension to the remembrance, allowing golfers to compete while celebrating the former president’s legacy
