Erik ten Hag has urged Manchester United not to be hasty with their decision to sack Michael Carrick following a poor start to the season. United have won just two of their first 10 matches across all competitions, which has already piled the pressure on Carrick's shoulders. The Englishman was appointed on a permanent basis in the summer following an impressive second half to the season, with Carrick having guided United into the Champions League. No sooner has this season got underway though, and there is chatter that Carrick could be let go, but ex-Red Devils boss Ten Hag believes that would be a mistake.
In an open and honest interview with The Athletic, Ten Hag said: “It is not the solution to dismiss him. 100 per cent not. Fans will demand this if results don’t improve — it is coming out from the stomach, from the emotion. You have to make rational decisions. He showed good coaching abilities at Middlesbrough and last season. So let him do his process. I think he has a good staff.”
