Senegal is preparing to host the 2026 Youth Olympic Games from October 31 to November 13, marking the first time an event bearing the Olympic rings will take place on African soil. Around 2,700 athletes will contest 153 medal events across 25 sports over 15 days in Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly. Organized by the International Olympic Committee, the competition showcases athletes predominantly aged 15 to 17 while promoting cultural exchange and Olympic values. Senegal hopes the event will generate tourism, employment, and skills development, building on training already provided to more than 400 young Africans. Organizers say the Games’ lasting legacy will extend beyond sport to Africa’s global visibility and youth development.
