Wyndham Clark was told by his brother that unless he got to caddie for him during the PGA Tour week in Mexico, he would be uninvited to his wedding celebration.
Clark's current caddie, David Pelekoudas, happens to also be busy this week at a wedding, but the Ryder Cup star and two-time U.S. Open champion is expanding his horizons at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open despite saying he'd take a long hiatus after the Presidents Cup.
Clark combined his love for Mexico with his job, and he took his brother, Brendan, with him after "Big Wave Dave" had long ago notified him of a wedding.
“Big Wave Dave is at a wedding in Italy, and he asked, gosh, maybe like three, four months ago if I was going to play during this week,” said Clark in Mexico.
"Initially, I said, 'I don't know if I'm going to play,' then when we decided to. He was like, 'If you want me to not go' -- it's one of his best friends, so I was like, 'No, go and enjoy that.'"
Without his primary caddie available, Clark required a temporary replacement. His brother quickly seized the opportunity before any other PGA Tour caddie could, and Clark was thrilled to have him by his side.
“Then my brother jumped on it, and he said, 'I'm caddying for you, otherwise you're not coming to the wedding,'" said Clark.
"Of course, I wanted my brother, too. It's kind of fun for us. He lives in Kansas City; I live in Arizona. We see each other a good amount but not as much as we would like, so this will be a fun, special week."
Clark shared that he is motivated to perform well so Brendan can walk away with a substantial payout to help cover his upcoming wedding costs.
"Anytime I tee it up, I’m trying to play my best. So I would love for my brother with his wedding coming up a great week, so I can give him a nice check to help pay for the wedding and honeymoon," Clark said.
Clark's wedding invite is still on the table, but he has more write-ins on the calendar as the PGA Tour fall series is in full swing.
“I have the Skins Game, which will be a lot of fun,” said Clark.
“South Africa, playing over there. Outside of that, I'll be in Arizona hanging with friends. I actually go to Mexico for about three, four weeks.
"So I'll be enjoying life, hanging out with friends, kind of getting back to normal routines and not traveling hopefully as much."
