JOHANNESBURG - World Athletics has put Athletics South Africa (ASA) on notice, giving them six months to adopt a revised Constitution and hold fresh elections.
In a letter to Athletics South Africa leaked to eNCA, World Athletics has appointed Zakhele Dlamini, President of the Southern African Confederation of Athletics, to oversee its directives.
This follows findings earlier this month by ASA's disciplinary panel, which found suspended President James Moloi guilty of the misuse of funds and recommended Moloi's removal.
No action has yet been taken against Moloi by ASA.
The letter goes on to say that failure to adopt a revised ASA Constitution within the prescribed six-month period would have far-reaching consequences.
This may include the suspension of ASA, a measure which would impact South African athletes on the world stage.
