Mwamba staged a remarkable comeback to beat Strathmore Leos 29-16 in the Impala Floodlit tournament at Impala Grounds.

Strathmore made a strong start, taking a 6-0 lead in the opening quarter after converting two penalties.

Mwamba responded in the 28th minute, scoring a try from a ruck, although the conversion attempt went wide to leave the scores at 6-5.

Strathmore extended their lead to 9-5 with another penalty in the 43rd minute before Thomas Opio crossed over for their first try following a pick-and-drive move. The conversion pushed the Leos’ advantage to 16-5.

Mwamba began their fightback in the 54th minute when eighth man Douglas Opani picked from the scrum and powered over for a try, reducing the deficit to 16-10.

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure, with Eugene Ojiambo crossing the whitewash for their third try. Denis Ndayala added the extras to give Mwamba a narrow 17-16 lead.

Brian Ondego, making his first appearance, then made impact by beating the defence and setting up Ojiambo for his second try of the match. Ndayala converted to extend Mwamba’s lead to 24-16.

Strathmore had a chance to close the gap through a penalty but failed to take advantage. Mwamba capitalized on the missed opportunity, crossing for a final try in the corner to seal a convincing 29-16 victory and complete a stunning turnaround.
