After not doing much running when eighth on debut in a restricted maiden special weight at Churchill Downs Sept. 16, Drain the Shot (Drain the Clock) dropped into state-bred stakes company Friday night at Remington and broke through in the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile Stakes.
Splitting the field from fourth through the quarter in :22.41, the 5-1 shot was able to hug the fence into the far turn and take command, holding off runner up Mister Okie (Caleb's Posse) and getting some breathing room late to break his maiden by 1 1/2 lengths.
The first stakes winner and seventh winner overall for Drain the Clock (by Maclean's Music), Drain the Shot was a $52,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic purchase earlier this year out of a mare picked up for $75,000 at Keeneland November in 2025.
Her yearling Gunite colt went for $125,000 at the September Sale to Q Ventures and she was sent back to Drain the Clock for 2027 but lost that foal.
