CHIMP SPORT: Jemba Brace Guides Police Past Kigezi Home Boyz
Police returned to winning ways after ousting Kigezi Home Boyz at Kira Road

• Police 2-1 Kigezi Home Boyz

Police FC returned to winning ways in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Kigezi HomeBoyz at Kira Road Police Arena on Tuesday, inspired by a second-half brace from substitute Abdushakur Ramsey Jjemba.

The Cops started brightly and nearly took the lead in the third minute when Ivan Mayanja delivered a cross from the right, but Rogers Kiwanuka headed wide.

Kigezi HomeBoyz responded, with Joseph Jjemba forcing Police goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga into a save in the 18th minute after leaving defender Stephen Namaisi on the floor with his movement.

Police broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Kiwanuka rose highest to head home Mayanja’s cross, giving the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead.

However, Kigezi HomeBoyz drew level in first-half added time after Police defender Jakony Daniel fouled Osmab Mayanja inside the penalty area.

Boris Nevez Kwezi stepped up and converted from the spot, sending Muwanga the wrong way to ensure the visitors went into the break at 1-1.

Police coach Mathias Lule introduced Denis Glosh Ojara for Ashiraf Mulindi at the start of the second half as the hosts sought to regain control.

A double substitution followed in the 61st minute, with Charles Bbaale and Abdushakur Ramsey Jjemba replacing Bedia Djuma Ikamba and Mayanja.

The changes proved decisive as Ramsey put Police back in front in the 81st minute. Bbaale made a surging run down the left before delivering a dangerous cross that Ramsey met at the near post, heading home from a tight angle to beat goalkeeper Norman Angufindru.

Two minutes later, Ramsey completed his brace, capitalising on the momentum to extend Police’s advantage to 3-1 thanks to an assist from Muzanyi Hakiramu.

Hakiramu Shafiq Muzanyi had replaced Kiwanuka in the 75th minute as Police managed the closing stages to secure all three points.

The victory ended Police FC’s three-match winless run, taking their points tally to 11 from eight games with three wins, two draws from eight games.

The Cops will shift attention to Friday’s away fixture against Kataka FC in Mbale, where they will look to build on their home success. Kigezi Home Boyz will on the other side play Maroons on Saturday in Wankulukuku.

The Kabale based side has one point from eight league matches.
