Magdeburg were unable to keep up with Bayern Munich in their 6-1 DFB-Pokal defeat on Wednesday night. After the match, Alexander Nollenberger acknowledged the challenge posed by the Bundesliga giants but also highlighted the positives from his team's performance.

"That game was a huge challenge, especially for me against Michael Olise. This Bayern team is a machine. They just don't stop," Nollenberger said.

The Magdeburg player also found a reason to smile despite the heavy defeat, joking about his personal duels with Olise. "When it comes to nutmegs, I'm leading 1-0 against Olise," he added.

Nollenberger stressed that his team should take confidence from their performance and continue to believe in their attacking abilities, even against top opposition.

"We have to understand that we can also be dangerous against teams like this and score goals. Of course, a lot has to come together for us to win here, but we showed who we are and how we play today," he explained.

Teammate Baris Atik shared a similar assessment, emphasising that Magdeburg had deliberately avoided sitting back against Bayern.

"We wanted to prove and show our good form from the second division today. We wanted to show that we wouldn't simply sit back against Bayern. And we had a few good chances in front of goal," Atik said.

"In the end, Bayern were simply too strong today. That's okay," Atik concluded.
