Man United Suffer Fresh Injury Blow As Six Players Miss Training Ahead Of Champions League Clash
Six United Stars Miss Training Ahead Champions League Clash

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has been handed a fresh selection headache ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Como, with six first-team players reportedly missing training.

According to talkSPORT, Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu were all absent from Tuesday’s training session, raising concerns over their availability for the trip to Italy.

The development comes at a difficult time for Carrick, whose side are without a victory in their last six matches across all competitions.

Man United’s Injury Situation

Martinez is among the major concerns after being withdrawn at half-time during United’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Leeds United on Sunday.

The Argentine defender was replaced by Noussair Mazraoui, with Carrick subsequently revealing that the centre-back “felt his thigh a little bit”.

Mainoo has also been sidelined since sustaining an unspecified injury during United’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, missing the club’s last two fixtures.

Shaw, meanwhile, was spotted limping following the Tottenham encounter and subsequently missed the matches against Atletico Madrid and Leeds.

Rashford, who remained on the bench throughout Sunday’s draw at Elland Road, is reportedly managing an injury problem, while Heaven has been struggling with illness.

Dorgu is yet to recover from the hamstring injury he sustained while representing Denmark during the international break.

United are also without Benjamin Sesko, who remains sidelined with a shin injury.

Carrick’s defensive options have been further reduced by the suspension of Leny Yoro, who was sent off during the Red Devils’ Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The situation could force the United boss into making significant changes to his backline against Como.

Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot are expected to retain their places after featuring against Leeds, while Mazraoui could also be handed a starting role.

Another possibility is the return of Matthijs de Ligt, who has not featured for United since last November after undergoing back surgery.

Alternatively, Carrick could deploy Mazraoui at centre-back, move Dalot to right-back and introduce Harry Amass on the left side of defence.

United will be hoping to end their disappointing run when they face Como at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Wednesday.
