Former WWE star Scotty 2 Hotty, real name Scott Garland, is best known for his time in the company alongside Grandmaster Sexay and Rikishi as Too Cool. The trio got over with the fans with their dance moves, during their initial run from 1999 to 2001.
During his time in the stable, Garland's super-over move was the worm. He explained on an episode of "" that he actually learned how to do the move in fourth grade. He started doing the worm in WWE during his entrance alongside Sexay, Brian Lawler, when they were known as Too Much.
"On the house shows, I would just drop down on our entrance once I got in the ring and I would do it," he said. "I was getting a reaction from it... Once we started the Too Cool thing, it felt like it fit the character. So I would hit the ropes, I would drop down and I would worm across. I remember dropping elbows and headbutts and leg drops and I knew I had something just from the buzz of the audience. One night on 'Raw,' ...Jerry Lawler says, 'W-O-R-M.' I heard the playback the next day and I asked him, 'Will you please keep doing that? If we can condition the audience to do that, they'll do it.' Sure enough, a month later, they're doing it."
Garland said the worm being successful is one of those things that just fell into place, he couldn't have planned it out. He said that's why he encourages young talent to just try things, as you never know what's going to take off with the crowd.
