AS FAR Rabat book CAF Confederation Cup group-stage place with late winner

AS FAR Rabat secured their place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage after Anas Bach’s 83rd-minute goal earned them a 2-1 victory over CO de Korhogo on Sunday.

The Moroccan side had been held to a goalless draw in the first leg, leaving the tie finely balanced before the return match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Youssef Al Fahli gave AS FAR Rabat an early advantage when he converted a penalty in the sixth minute. The goal put the Military ahead in the tie and appeared to give them control of the contest.

CO de Korhogo, however, restored uncertainty nine minutes after half-time. The Ivorian team equalised in the 54th minute, leaving AS FAR Rabat temporarily facing the prospect of missing out on qualification.

With the home side struggling to regain the lead, Bach finally found the breakthrough seven minutes from the end of normal time. His goal put AS FAR Rabat back in front and brought relief to the supporters inside the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The Military held on to their advantage until the final whistle, completing a difficult victory and advancing to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

AS FAR Rabat will now continue in the competition after being pushed to the limit by a CO de Korhogo side that caused them serious problems across the two legs.
