Matt Araiza reveals his mindset during fake punt play vs. the Raiders

Kansas City Chiefs punter Matt Araiza spoke with reporters Friday about his mindset during his Week 4 fake punt against the Las Vegas Raiders.

"The re-punt, I sprinted downfield to cover, so I'm dead tired. My cardio is not very good. I don't really work on it that much," said Araiza. "And get back to the line of scrimmage, and I'm thinking, all right, what do I want to do? Do I want to hit the ball the same direction? Do I want to switch it maybe up? And then I see the look, and I'm like, no way. And sure enough, yeah, it worked out."

Araiza fooled the entire stadium by faking a punt and running for a clutch 12-yard first down. His performance earned him the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award.

"I need to look like I'm still punting the ball, and honestly, that whole thing was a blur," said Araiza. "I wasn't sure that I did it, but I was kind of happy looking back at the film. Like, I did a decent job selling it."

During the Week 4 victory, Araiza punted five times for 238 yards (47.6 yards per punt) and pinned all five inside the 20-yard line.
