Defence against attack as Entebbe UPPC host Maroons

Overview:

Entebbe UPPC head coach Abdallah Mubiru is under no illusions about the scale of the task ahead, choosing to praise Maroons' enduring identity and top-flight resilience rather than underestimate them.

A fascinating tactical battle awaits football fans this Wednesday as fourth-placed Entebbe UPPC host eighth-placed Maroons FC at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, in a classic “irresistible force meets immovable object” showdown.

The Printers enter the match sitting comfortably in fourth position on 14 points. For them, the stakes could not be higher. A victory over the Prison Warders will move them to within just three points of table leaders BUL FC—setting up a mouth-watering, high-stakes matchday nine encounter when the two frontrunners square off next.

Crucial Test for the Printers

Entebbe UPPC head coach Abdallah Mubiru is under no illusions about the scale of the task ahead, choosing to praise Maroons’ enduring identity and top-flight resilience rather than underestimate them.

“They are one side with a culture and have always been competitive through the years,” Mubiru told reporters ahead of the game. “For us, the game will be tough, against a very good opponent with good coaches, but we have prepared the lads well.”

Mubiru’s tactical depth will be tested on Wednesday. The Entebbe-based outfit will have to navigate the fixture without the services of influential midfield duo Emmanuel Lisat and Hassan Ssenyonjo, who have both been sidelined with injuries. In their absence, the responsibility of spearheading the hunt for maximum points will fall squarely on the shoulders of Reich Kokolo, Ambrose Kigozi, and Steven Munguchi.

Lethal Attack vs. Immovable Defence

For Maroons FC, who currently sit eighth with 10 points, a trip to Nakivubo offers a prime opportunity to extend their impressive unbeaten streak to four matches.

The Prison Warders have proven to be one of the division’s most lethal attacking packages this season. Having found the back of the net 13 times, only SC Villa (16), leaders BUL (15), and NEC (17) have outscored them. However, their gung-ho approach has left them vulnerable at the back, having shipping eight goals in seven outings.

That shaky backline will be starkly contrasted by UPPC’s defensive steel. Alongside champions Vipers SC, the Printers boast the meanest defence in the Uganda Premier League, having conceded a minuscule two goals all season.

Whether Maroons’ lethal frontline can finally pick the lock of UPPC’s stubborn backline remains the biggest question on the day.

Elsewhere, KCCA host Lugazi at MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo while Vipers play away to Mbarara City in Kamwenge.
