Ghanaian table tennis player Joanita Borteye began her women’s singles campaign at the 2026 ITTF-Africa Championships in Tangier, Morocco, with a straight-games victory over Rwanda’s Chantal Hirwa on Thursday.

Borteye won 3–0 in their Group 9 encounter at the Arena Olympic Hall, taking the games 11–8, 11–9 and 11–7 to secure a positive start to her campaign. The match lasted 16 minutes and 45 seconds.

The victory marks a promising start for the young Ghanaian, who is competing among the continent’s leading players at the senior championships after gaining experience at the 2025 edition in Tunis, Tunisia.

Borteye will return to the table on Friday, October 23, when she faces Tunisia’s Ela Saidi at 10:15 a.m. local time in her second group match. She is also scheduled to meet Morocco’s Nour Slamti later in the day at 4:30 p.m.

The championships, which run from October 18 to 25, provide another opportunity for Borteye to test herself against experienced African opposition and build on her progress in the sport.
