Lookman, Osimhen, Nwachukwu Set for Champions League Action as Usor Faces Fitness Test

Nigerian footballers Ademola Lookman, Christian Nwachukwu and Victor Osimhen are set for another round of UEFA Champions League action, with their respective clubs seeking important results in the league phase. At the same time, Moses Usor remains a doubt for LASK, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Lookman’s Atletico Madrid travel to Germany to face Stuttgart at the MHPArena on Tuesday, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm Nigerian time.

Atletico suffered a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in their opening fixture but have responded with six consecutive victories across competitions. Their recent run includes a 2-0 Champions League triumph over Manchester United last week, in which Lookman found the net.

Stuttgart, meanwhile, have made a strong start to their European campaign, winning both opening league-phase matches, 3-1 against Viking and 3-0 against Slovan Bratislava. However, they head into Tuesday’s contest after a 1-0 Bundesliga defeat to Hamburg at the weekend.

Lookman has recorded two goal involvements in 11 appearances this season and will be hoping to make another impact as Atletico pursue a third consecutive Champions League victory.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Sabah host Borussia Dortmund in Baku, with kick-off set for 5:45 pm Nigerian time.

Sabah head into the encounter after a historic 2-0 win over Slavia Prague last week, their first Champions League win. The Azerbaijani side have also won all five of their home matches in the competition, including qualifying fixtures.

Nigerian youngster Christian Nwachukwu, 20, joined Sabah from Sheffield United in August and was part of the squad that defeated Slavia. He also featured in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Gabala and will hope to play a role against Dortmund.

The German side, however, arrive in Azerbaijan looking to end a three-match winless run that has stretched across the international break.

Another fixture involving Nigerian players on Tuesday sees Slavia Prague travel to Fenerbahce, with the match also scheduled for 5:45 pm Nigerian time.

Slavia have lost their opening two matches, going down 3-2 to Lens before their defeat to Sabah. Fenerbahce have also struggled, drawing 1-1 with Roma before suffering a heavy 6-0 loss to Aston Villa.

Nigerians Mubarak Suleiman, Emmanuel Ayaosi, Moses David and Samuel Isifie are part of Slavia’s squad, with the Czech side seeking their first points of the league phase.

On Wednesday, attention will turn to Victor Osimhen as Galatasaray travel to France to face Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:45 pm Nigerian time.

Galatasaray have endured a difficult start to their European campaign, losing 3-1 away to Sporting CP and 4-1 at home to Barcelona, despite taking the lead in both matches.

Lille are also searching for their first points after losing their opening two Champions League fixtures. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Brest in Ligue 1 over the weekend.

Osimhen played the full 90 minutes in Galatasaray’s 1-0 away victory over Gençlerbirli?i on Saturday, with a late own goal deciding the encounter. The Nigerian striker will be hoping to help the Turkish champions improve their European fortunes against Lille.

Also on Wednesday, LASK face a difficult trip to Portugal to take on Sporting CP, with Usor again doubtful after missing last week’s fixture against Liverpool.

His compatriot Samuel Adeniran could be an important option for the Austrian side after scoring in their 4-0 win over Austria Lustenau on Saturday. Adeniran will be hoping to carry that form into the European encounter as LASK prepare for a demanding test in Lisbon.
