Kenya women’s national volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, outside hitter Veronica Adhiambo has secured a professional move to China after signing for Henan Women’s Volleyball Club, which competes in the Chinese Volleyball Super League.

Adhiambo arrived in China on Thursday morning ahead of her official unveiling by the Luohe-based club, marking another significant milestone in her professional volleyball career.

Henan finished sixth in an eight-team Chinese Volleyball Super League last season, with Shanghai Bright Ubest topping the standings and Adhiambo will now have an opportunity to test herself in the Asian league as she continues to develop her game at the international level.

The reliable outside hitter joins Henan after playing a key role in the Malkia Strikers’ campaign at the African Women’s Volleyball Championship hosted in Nairobi, where Kenya reached the final before losing to Egypt.

Playing on home soil, the Kenyan side battled its way through the continental competition to secure a place in the final. Although the hosts fell short of the title, their run demonstrated Kenya’s continued competitiveness among Africa’s leading women’s volleyball nations.

Born in 1999, Adhiambo discovered her sporting talent at Kamrembo Siwandhe Primary School in Siaya County. It was during her formative years that she chose to pursue volleyball rather than football, a decision that set her on the path to becoming one of Kenya’s established national team players.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

Her professional journey has taken her across several European leagues. She began her overseas club career with Turkey’s Tarsus Belediyespor during the 2022/23 season before moving to Greece, where she represented Paniónios GSS from 2023/24 to 2024/25. She also featured for AO Lamia 2013 in Greece during the 2024/25 season before joining Israel’s Hapoel Kfar Saba for the 2025/26 campaign.

Adhiambo subsequently featured for Aris Thessaloniki in Greece before securing her latest move to China, adding another international destination to her growing professional resume.

Her transfer comes just days after another Kenyan volleyball star, Terry Tata, joined Turkish side Bodrum Belediyesi Bodrum Spor on a one-year contract, with the Malkia Strikers and KCB player expected to make her debut against Fenerbahçe on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

The two moves highlight the growing opportunities for Kenyan volleyball players to compete in overseas leagues, gain international experience and sharpen their skills against different levels of opposition. Such exposure could prove valuable to the Malkia Strikers as Kenya continues to pursue continental success and strengthen its presence on the global volleyball stage.
