Yan Diomande had plenty of reasons to celebrate after Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig. The forward came off the bench to score a spectacular late goal against his former club, putting the finishing touch on an impressive Champions League performance.

“It’s always important to win. That is our goal, and we achieved it tonight,” he said.

“My goal wasn’t easy to score, of course, but it’s nice to look at. It went well for me. I had to decide whether to control the ball or take my chances with a volley. I’m glad the volley worked out like that,” Diomande explained his goal.

The forward insisted that facing familiar faces was an enjoyable experience rather than an uncomfortable one.

“It wasn’t weird to play against my former teammates. It was fun, actually. Everybody was nice to me. I was the youngest when I was there, and it was really nice to see them again tonight.”

Diomande will now turn his attention to another major occasion, with Real Madrid preparing to face Barcelona in El Clásico this weekend.
