CAF Champions League: Zamalek and Pyramids begin second qualifying round

The first legs of the second preliminary round of the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League take place on Friday, 16 October, with Zamalek and Pyramids FC entering the competition at this stage.

Zamalek travel to Rwanda to face APR FC, aiming to establish an advantage in the opening match of their tie and move closer to the group stage.

The Egyptian club reached the second round after a convincing 6-1 aggregate victory over AS Port de Djibouti in the previous stage. APR FC will provide a different test, having recovered from a difficult position to progress from the first round.

In the other match, Pyramids FC travel to South Sudan to play El Merriekh Bentiu. The Egyptian side impressed in the previous round and will look to maintain that form as they begin their continental campaign at this stage.

The two fixtures start an important weekend for the clubs competing in the tournament. The second legs will be played between 23 and 25 October, with only the teams that advance from this round securing a place in the group stage.

Friday, 16 October – kick-off times in GMT

13:30 – El Merriekh Bentiu (South Sudan) v Pyramids FC (Egypt)

16:00 – APR FC (Rwanda) v Zamalek (Egypt)
