Rangers International have urged supporters to fill the Moshood Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta for Sunday’s CAF Champions League second preliminary round first leg against MC Alger.
The match will begin at 2pm Nigerian time, with the Nigerian champions seeking an advantage before the return fixture in Algeria.
Amobi Ezeaku, the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Rangers International, called on Nigerians to show their support by attending the game in large numbers and encouraging the players.
He believes a strong turnout could provide the motivation required for Rangers to produce a committed performance and secure a positive result in the opening leg.
Ezeaku said the match carried significance beyond the contest on the pitch, with Rangers representing the hopes and pride of Enugu State and Nigeria in African club football.
Rangers, one of Nigeria’s historic football clubs, reached the second preliminary round after overcoming Sobemap of the Benin Republic in the opening phase of the competition.
The tie was level at 2-2 on aggregate after two matches, but Rangers prevailed 4-3 in the penalty shootout to progress.
Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side will now face MC Alger, with Sunday’s fixture providing their first opportunity to establish an advantage in the two-legged contest. The decisive return leg will determine which team advances from the tie.
