Mega Market Mountaineers: 234-7 (50 overs). Patel 58, Maruma 55, Magodo 44*; Tinotenda Maposa 2/32, Shumba 2/43, Mhuriyengwe 2/45

Tuskers: 235-7 (48 overs). Ali Hamid 75, Mupariwa 58, Shumba 39*; Vhezha 2/25, Patel 2/24

Result: Tuskers won by three wickets

Tuskers chased down 235 with 12 balls to spare to beat Mega Market Mountaineers at Mutare Sports Club on the opening day of the Pro50 Championship 2026/27 season, with Aliakbar Hamid and Tafara Mupariwa laying the platform for victory.

Inserted by Tuskers captain Clive Madande, the Mountaineers made 234-7, but their innings was built on recovery rather than authority. They were 26-3 after Takudzwa Nyamugure and Dion Myers fell for ducks, and Tinotenda Maposa removed both Myers and Alistar Frost.

Ronak Patel ground out 58 from 107 balls and captain Timycen Maruma added 55, before Spencer Magodo’s unbeaten 44 from 23 deliveries, including three sixes, lifted the total late on. Milton Shumba and Jeffrey Mhuriyengwe took two wickets each.

Arineshto Vhezha struck early in reply, removing Brian Mudzinganyama for a duck and Nkosana Mpofu for 35 to leave Tuskers 55-2. Hamid then anchored the chase with 75 from 91 balls, sharing the innings with Mupariwa, who made 58 from 67.

Patel, the Mountaineers’ top scorer, then turned bowler, taking two wickets, including Hamid, as the hosts sensed a way back. Tuskers lost five wickets for 41 runs to slip from 176-2 to 217-7.

Shumba, however, stayed calm. His unbeaten 39 from 43 balls, with Maposa unbeaten on six, guided Tuskers home in the 48th over.

Eagles: 246-9 (50 overs). Mupfudza 88, Kamunhukamwe 36, Maunze 32; Chataira 2/55, Mushangwe 2/52, Sadoki 2/49

Southern Rocks: 119-6 (25 overs, DLS target). J Campbell 39*, Kaia 23; Macheka 3/34

Result: Eagles won by 58 runs (DLS method)

Rodney Mupfudza hit 88 as Eagles beat defending champions Southern Rocks by 58 runs under the DLS method in Masvingo.

Put in by Southern Rocks, Eagles made 246-9. Mupfudza faced 100 balls and hit eight fours and two sixes, sharing in a steady build with captain Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, who made 36, and Kudzai Maunze, who added 32.

The Eagles innings lost momentum when Mupfudza fell to Takudzwa Chataira at 217-7, but Kudakwashe Macheka added a quickfire 18 from 17 balls. Chataira, Derrick Sadoki and Natsai Mushangwe took two wickets each, while Owen Muzondo conceded only 23 runs from his 10 overs.

With Southern Rocks’ reply reduced to 25 overs, Macheka then took centre stage with the ball. He removed Ashley Mufandauya and Panashe Taruvinga to help leave the champions 28-3, and returned later to dismiss Derrick Sadoki, finishing with 3-34.

Captain Roy Kaia made 23 before being bowled by Alex Falao, and Southern Rocks never recovered the momentum. Jonathan Campbell’s unbeaten 39 from 48 balls was the lone resistance as the champions finished on 119-6.

Eagles’ bowlers were also helped by 19 wides from the Rocks’ opponents’ side of the ledger, but the extras could not mask the shortfall.
