Abdul Karim Zito explains frustration with FC AshantiGold 04 players despite recognising fatigue

FC AshantiGold 04 head coach Abdul Karim Zito has explained his frustration with his players’ defensive approach during their match, admitting that although the team had opportunities, they spent too much time sitting deep.

Zito, who spoke to journalists after the game, said he was unhappy with the players’ positioning and their tendency to retreat instead of pushing forward when opportunities arose to make an impact.

The coach revealed that his initial reaction was driven by the team’s approach on the pitch, particularly when his players appeared to allow their opponents too much space and time to build attacks.

“We had some opportunities, but my players were sitting too deep. That’s why I was annoyed, but I later realised they were tired,” Zito said.

His comments suggest that the coach wanted his players to take a more proactive approach, especially when the team had opportunities to attack. Rather than dropping too far back, he expected them to maintain a better balance between defending their goal and putting pressure on their opponents.

However, Zito acknowledged that his assessment changed after he considered the physical condition of his players. He admitted that fatigue had affected their performance, offering an explanation for why they struggled to maintain the approach he expected.

The coach’s remarks highlight the challenge of managing players’ energy levels during a competitive match. While tactical discipline remains important, fatigue can affect a team’s ability to press, maintain its shape and move forward with the necessary intensity.

For Zito, the experience appeared to provide a different perspective on his players’ performance. Although he was initially annoyed by their deep defensive positioning, he later recognised that tiredness could have contributed to their decisions on the pitch.

His post-match comments also underline the importance of understanding the physical demands placed on players while maintaining the tactical standards expected of them.

The FC AshantiGold 04 coach will be looking for his team to improve its balance between defence and attack in subsequent matches, while ensuring that the players can sustain their intensity for longer periods.

Zito’s explanation offers an insight into his immediate reaction during the game and his subsequent recognition that the players’ physical condition may have influenced their tactical execution.
