AS Monaco defeated Fribourg 3-0 at the Stade Louis-II in the UEFA Conference League, securing their second victory in the league phase thanks to goals from Paris Brunner, Lamine Camara, and Ansu Fati, SO FOOT.com reported.
Entering the match as one of the competition favorites under coach Filipe Luís, the club organized in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Brunner leading the attack against a Fribourg side sitting third in the Bundesliga, according to Foot Mercato. Early pressure from the hosts saw attempts from Mathys Detourbet in the 3rd minute and Mamadou Coulibaly in the 24th minute, both stopped by Fribourg goalkeeper Mio Backhaus. Brunner also tested the German side’s defense with a right-footed shot to the near post that Backhaus saved.
The deadlock broke just before halftime in the 45th plus second minute. Edan Diop delivered a pass from 35 meters out to Brunner, who executed a sombrero over Max Rosenfelder before driving alone toward the goal to score his eighth goal in nine matches this season, as documented by SO FOOT.com.
The second half brought sustained pressure from the German visitors. Foot Mercato noted that Monaco suffered heavily immediately after the restart, with the defense blocking two close-range attempts following a corner kick in the 48th minute as the hosts dropped deep. Filipe Luis responded by introducing Ansu Fati and Soubeir off the bench. Shortly after, Brunner nearly doubled his tally, but Backhaus pushed his shot away to the left.
Monaco weathered the German dominance and secured the match in the closing stages. In the 83rd minute, after Backhaus parried an initial effort from Fati, midfielder Lamine Camara reacted quickest to tap the rebound into the net with the inside of his foot, making it 2-0.
In stoppage time at the 90th plus first minute, Fati capped the evening with a left-footed strike into the opposite bottom corner following an assist from Matthis Abline, establishing the final 3-0 scoreline detailed by L’essentiel.
With this three-goal victory following an earlier win over CSKA Sofia, AS Monaco climbed to sixth place in the UEFA Conference League league phase standings. The club continues its continental campaign as the tournament progresses toward the next round of fixtures.
