Three-horse race for NBS Bank NDL Golden Boot

Sebastian Chinsomba of FOMO FC, Dickson Mwangonde of Songwe Border United and Hussein Sanudi of Ntaja United are tied at the top of the NBS Bank National Division League (NDL) Golden Boot race with eight goals each.

According to the latest top scorers chart, Chinsomba has scored his eight goals in 14 games, while Mwangonde and Sanudi have reached the same tally after 15 matches each.

Chinsomba therefore has a slight edge in terms of goals per game as the three forwards battle for the league’s top scorer award.

Namitete Zitha FC’s Alexander Cosmas and Songwe Border United’s Emmanuel Munthali are next on the chart with six goals apiece.

Cosmas has scored in 14 games, while Munthali has featured in 15 matches.

Five players have scored five goals each. They include Slay Anthony of Extreme FC, Ackim Mponda of Changalume Barracks, Phillip Mtika of Mzuzu City Hammers and Chilobwe United’s Madalitso Hadge and Steven Jafali.

Mponda has scored his five goals in nine games, while Anthony, Mtika, Hadge and Jafali have each played 13 matches.

Chilobwe United’s Madalitso Chinsomba has also scored five goals, but in just six games, making him one of the players to watch as the season progresses.

As the race for the Golden Boot continues, attention now shifts to Week 16, with teams preparing for another round of matches that could reshape the standings.

Songwe Border United will be looking to maintain their lead at the top of the league when they face fifth-placed Embangweni United in one of the weekend’s fixtures.

The leaders, who have 32 points from 15 matches, will meet Embangweni at Karonga Stadium on Sunday, November 1.

Songwe Border have won 10 games, drawn two and lost three, while Embangweni have recorded seven wins, three draws and five defeats.

Songwe Border are five points clear of second-placed Extreme FC, who have a game in hand.

Extreme, on 27 points, will face third-placed Mzuzu City Hammers, who have 26 points, at Rumphi Stadium on Saturday, November 7.

The two sides are separated by just one point, making the encounter important in the race for the top positions.

Extreme have won eight of their 14 matches, while the Hammers have seven victories from 15 games.

Meanwhile, fourth-placed FOMO FC will host 11th-placed Bangwe All Stars at Mulanje Stadium on Saturday, October 31.

FOMO have 24 points, the same as Embangweni, while Bangwe have managed just nine points from 15 matches, with two wins, three draws and 10 defeats.

Sixth-placed Chilobwe United will travel to Zomba Stadium to face bottom-placed Changalume Barracks on Saturday, November 7.

Chilobwe have collected 22 points from 15 games, while Changalume have just four points from 14 matches.

Changalume are still searching for their first win of the season after drawing four games and losing 10.

Namitete Zitha, who are seventh with 22 points, will take on 10th-placed Mighty Tigers at Aubrey Dimba Stadium on Sunday, November 8.

Mighty Tigers have 14 points from 15 matches, having won three, drawn five and lost seven.

In another fixture on Sunday, November 1, eighth-placed Ntaja United will face ninth-placed Ndirande Stars at Vision Stadium.

Ntaja have 20 points, two more than Ndirande, meaning the result could see the two sides exchange places on the log table.

Songwe Border have scored 25 goals and conceded 12, giving them a goal difference of plus 13.

Mzuzu City Hammers have a plus-eight goal difference, while Extreme FC stand at plus five.

The figures show that Songwe Border have been more effective in front of goal, but Extreme and the Hammers will be looking to keep the pressure on the leaders as the league progresses.

At the bottom of the table, Changalume Barracks and Bangwe All Stars have work to do, with four and nine points, respectively.
