JOE Osovet has been fired as head coach of the Heritage High School football team.

The former Tennessee Volunteers coach was let go after being placed on leave earlier this month.

Osovet was put on leave on October 2 and according to an October 21 report from the Knox News Sentinel, he is no longer with the team.

When he was put on leave, Derrick Crabtree of the Blount County School District in Tennessee said the decision was “pending further investigation.”

He also said that the “situation involves an ongoing personnel matter.”

The school district’s announcement of Osovet’s firing as coach also revealed that his status as a teacher “remains under review as part of an ongoing personnel investigation.”

“We recognize the importance of stability and continuity for our student-athletes, families and the Heritage High school community,” the statement said.

“Our focus remains on supporting our students and ensuring that the school’s football program can move forward in a positive and productive manner.

“Because this remains an ongoing personnel matter, Blount County Schools will not provide additional details at this time.”

Osovet held multiple roles at the University of Tennessee before becoming head coach at Heritage High School.

He was the Director of Player Development in 2018 and Director of Football Programming in 2019 before becoming the tigh ends coach in 2020.

He was not retained when head coach Josh Heupel took over Tennessee in 2021.
